LOL I remember that thread. Unfortunately if you keep going back on that thread you only end up at:

This topic doesn't exist on this board. 1105717333 : 74.

lol, isn't it time to move this thread?

On the real issue at hand here I think it would be a good idea for some people, but in another respect some people would see it as a chance to stand up and say anything religious or political they wanted to and then turning around and locking it.

Just my thoughts, nothing more...

I can just imagine that.... a full forum with locked threads:

[locked]George Bush sucks[/locked]

[locked]Kerry sucks[/locked]

[locked]Don't you wish this terrorsit was executed[/locked]

[locked]There is no such thing as a true religeon[/locked]

Get the idea Jared? ;) ;D

ben's got a point there, that would certainly ruin the sef-mod ability (if it were to exist)

i like the idea, but people would do stuff like that.

I dont think it would. Anyone with any respect for this site wouldn't do that, and anyone without it, would find themselves banned very quickly.

It's human nature. I wouldn't and I don't think anyone would post stuff like XXX  sucks and XXX is rubbish etc, but I do think people would post controversial things which naturally provoke folk and if they can't reply to the original thread they may reply by starting and locking their own post. ::)
If I posted a post at why I though Tony Blair has made a brilliant job of being Prime Minister, loads of folk would be annoyed and would think him a criminal. If I posted he should be removed from office because of the Iraq war or that he is abusing his position and robbing people in tax - people would defend him to death. ;D Seeing as half of people here are American, US politics (which is a very volatile and disagreeable subject! ;)) would be even worse. It also doesn't matter how tactful you are (you either love politicans, you hate them or you are not interested in them) there will always be someone that will be upset.

It is simply only because of human nature that the no-politics, no-religion rule exists. It isn't because of the subject itself that it is not allowed.

See what I mean? :)

No not really. Because 1: your bringing up all those things in a post, and whether or not they are used as an example or not they are still being posted when they shouldn't. And 2: you missed the point completely. They can post contreversial posts now that end up locked anyway and then deleted. So they could post it lock and it would still be deleted by the mods. Hell if they locked it themselves it would stop the crap that comes from the ensuing arguments. It may still be there, but the mods will see it and take action by deleting it then warning/banning the offender. As it would be anyway.

But then if people were that good you wouldn't need the locking at all! People could discuss politics/religion as normal as anything else. ;D
