locking

Postby TacitBlue » Mon Sep 19, 2005 2:49 pm

Would it be possible to give us the ability to lock threads that we start? I don't mean making us all mods, but for example, I could lock a thread that I start, or Bob could lock a thread that he started, but I couldn't lock Bobs thread. see what I'm saying? I think it would help to stop a thread from going into forbidden subjects.

It would be a nice idea. Certainly stop alot of problems quicker. Or at least give someone who's name begins with D more power. ;) ;D

If that means me Craig I don't want more power or I would have accepted the offer of becoming a mod. ;)

However, I would have welcomed the ability to lock one of my own threads (or delete it completely) a couple of days ago. As it was my thread I can't see any objection to that but I doubt it would be possible.

PS. It's none of my business but I think it would be a nice idea for the person locking a thread to give the reason for it before doing so. This sometimes happens but very rarely in my experience which I find very frustrating. Mind you, fortunately not many threads need to be locked.

It's not possible without rewriting it into the yaBB script, which we are loathe to do.

If you want a thread of your own locked, just PM a mod.  Generally mods don't have real lives and jump at the opportunity to lock a thread just for the heck of it.

Of course, we could just astart moving it all over the place...

Please anything but that! :o I won't forget last times game. ::)

As Doug said, it is very frustrating on forums when people lock threads just because they have decided they don't like where it has gone. It is a bit like sitting in a room full of people and then when one feels one has had enough, saying SHUT UP! and proceeding to kick everyone out. I think I prefer the mods at the lock button. 8)

As a general rule though most suggestion in this forum are impossible to carry out or just take too much time.  ::)

Yeah, I had a feeling it was either impossible, or would be to much work. You never know if you don't ask, though. ;)

Moving a thread takes almost no time at all... most of the time is spent just deciding what board to move it to!

(spoilsport!)

Not sure what you mean here Felix. ??? I was saying that nearly all of the suggestions that are suggested are never carried through because Pete either can't or doesn't have the time to do them + some aren't good ones of course. ;)

lol, isn't it time to move this thread?

On the real issue at hand here I think it would be a good idea for some people, but in another respect some people would see it as a chance to stand up and say anything religious or political they wanted to and then turning around and locking it.

Just my thoughts, nothing more...
