Doesn't sound a bad plan - whenever I see an exciting new payware release I tend to mention it in the payware forum...

Freeware release "news" or "finds" are in the main SimV pages, and/or the FS2004/etc.  forums.

Personally, I don't think a payware news board is needed.  The only reason there are the 2 payware boards is to seperate the payware stuff from the rest of the forum-since the point of this site is freeware.  If I remember right, Pete was reluctant to even create the payware board (and that is why it is at the bottom of the forum).

I think a freeware news board is a good idea in theory, but I doubt it will get used that much.  Those who make a post pertaining to something they are making (or have seen released) is usually made in the board for that game (FS9, CFS3, ect...) and that doesn't seem to happen often enough to warrent a new board.
