Trojan Detected

Postby Mike.. » Wed Mar 21, 2012 12:38 pm

This is a first for me in this topic but I feel I need to bring it to your (the mods) attention.

In this file, ersp180fsx.zip, my AVG went off and found a back door trojan file within the extract file for the aircraft.

I know AVG isn't the best thing out there for catching viruses but mine never goes off. A fluke? Maybe. A false catch by the antivirus program? Again maybe, but I think its worth investigating.

I'd like to know your findings in this matter. I was looking forward to flying around with the Avanti.

Thanks in advance for your (the mods) help in this matter. This has always been an awesome site and I don't get my aircraft from anywhere else (unless its payware of course). Keep up the great work ;)

Kindest Regards

Mike

Just checked it out. 1st I would be very surprised if Eagle had uploaded anything with any kind of trojan ... and 2nd I would normally hear about this within thw 1st 30 downloads - this one has over 8000 downloads. I also remember installing this plane when it 1st came out and loved it. No problems then either.

Downloaded it fresh (even though I already have all files on multiple backups) .. installed without any hitch .. have no idea why you got a warning but I very much doubt if it's this file. (I also use AVG (& avast and 18 mnth free mcafee) and have been using it for years and have never had any problems of infections.)

False positives with trojans aren't uncommon, especially with Avira (but I'd rather deal with a dozen false positives than have one malicious program get through  ...I just spent four days removing the win32/sirefef rootkit).

If the trojan mentioned has anything like "pack" or "packer" in the name it is probably a false alarm;  this refers to compression software commonly used for malware ...and also apparently common in install programs.  When in doubt, upload the file to virustotal.com for their results (rarely takes more than a couple of minutes, they scan with a dozen different programs and display the results).

I re-downloaded it 2 more times with the same result :-/. I'll take a shot of it if I get around to it. With over 8000 downloads it's gotta be on my end. No worries. Thanks for the imput.

I downloaded the file & scanned it with Avira & Malwarebytes. No malicious items detected.
