corrupt air file

Postby propnut » Tue Nov 17, 2009 5:47 am

Hello everyone,

I have been inactive for a while and started to try to download a few files trying to catch up. My problem is that every aircraft file I download shows a corrupted .air file (error message).

I searched the forum site and did not find an answer to this problem so I thought

Hi Paul. I suspect you have Adobe AIR installed. This is included with the latest update for Adobe Reader & associates itself with ALL files with the .air extension including the FS default AIR files. It also changes the file type to Installer Package. This is how it looks in the FS9 default C172.

This does not affect FS AIR files in any way. You will only get the error message if you double-click on an AIR file to open it which is not necessary. This is the error message.

The files are not corrupt & will still work in FS if the aircraft are installed in the usual way.

If you wish to return the files to their original association & file type uninstall Adobe AIR from Add/Remove Programs.

Many thanks Hagar, that is exactly what it was. The sneaky little bugger changed my file associations behind my back.

I deleted the file and cleaned up the registry- problem solved.

Thanks again,
Paul

well how do I get it to be uncorrupted, I haven't tried what Hagar said yet but I think I will, anyways I usually need to click on the .air file to get it available to fly, drive, and operate. what happens if I uninstall Adobe Air, will it effect my other computer's function?

Oddly enough I believe you may have replied to a linked thread. Adobe Air is easy enough to recover if removal causes problems.

There is absolutely no need to click on an AIR file for any FS aircraft to work. The FS AIR files are not corrupt, Adobe AIR just thinks they are.

As Opa pointed out in the FAQ Pete linked to I don't know anyone who actually uses Adobe AIR. I suggest you uninstall it to return everything to how it was before. If you ever need it you can download it separately from the Adobe website. This is what it's used for. http://www.adobe.com/products/air/
