AFAIK when they take an engine out of storage and run it for the first time, the protective oil coating is burn't off. Perfectly normal.

All that burn and no thrust! Look at it just sitting there! Tut.


That, or someone at Boeing accidently loaded a 737 up with some GE F404 engines. I bet there is one naffed off Hornet pilot out there.

Well. I would expect that the fire would provide no thrust - I mean, the engines are still at idle, there should be no reason for it to move. Whereas an afterburner supplements the planes (full) thrust.
