Tropico is like Sim City, but you're in charge of a Caribbean island. The game has scenarios and missions, but it's best feature is the sandbox mode where you can set the level and play for as long as you want.
You have to build farms and logging camps to get your economy rolling and eventually you'll be able to make your island a haven for Tourists.

Another great part of this game is it is set during the Cold War, so your political opinions and diplomatic actions can change how the US or the USSR think of you. This can be from large amounts of aid or invasions and overthrows.

I got it off Steam just then...

The Americans invaded me ;(

Good game though, a lot of fun. It just helps to make the right decisions at the right moment.

Wikipedia mentions something about a role as a communist leader... Is that true?

You can be entirely devoted to either side.

There are backgrounds for your "Presidente" such as "Installed by KGB" or attended Moscow University. Obviously these improve your relations with the USSR and change how your island is run.
What I've found though, is that it is harder to be Communist as people lose happiness due to lack of liberty.

Sounds great too! A little like SimCS. :)

The graphics are way better than the first Tropico. I was never really immersed into the whole communistic Cuban simulation thing though. I might get back into it with this one.

Aaaahhh there he goes again with his Fidel jokes...LOL ;D

Interesting game though, I have to say. I was literally one of those people unhappy due to lack of liberty in Cuban communism... ;)
