Annoying Problem

Postby The-Black-Sheep » Sun Mar 08, 2009 7:42 am

I recently installed COD 4 and Half Life 2 on my new PC. However, after about 10 minutes of game play on each, my PC crashes and the colours become all...well...distorted on screen (various mixture of blues, greens, purples, reds etc) and the sound loops extremely fast aswell.

I've gone over and over various forums to find a solution, but I havn't had any luck

...are you sure the fans on your PSU, Processor, and Graphics Card are all working OK?...

...and the Case Fans...

Have a peek!

...sounds very much like an "overheating" problem to me!

Hmm...I thought about that initially, but didn't check it at first. Had a quick look earlier though and all fans are running

Just played Empire Total War for a good hour and a half, in game settings on high, and not a single problem...

Any other suggestions folks?  :-/

It sounds like a driver problem because I had the same problem with TF2 and other games of the sort before I upgraded.
Nick's new favorite and my new favorite are nvidia's 180.48 drivers. You appear to have the same OS as me so try those out first, if they don't work it might be a physical problem. ;)

Hmm...unfortunately that didn't work either  :(

Don't understand why they worked fine on a much older rig but fall flat on their faces on a brand new one  :-/

Looks like I could be calling it a day for Half Life 2 and COD 4 then  :'(

Looks like things have been sorted folks [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

It seems I was having paged pool memory issues....closed down my anti virus software and all worked fine...well..on Half Life 2 anyway. Now to test COD 4...

Happy days! :D

Got a 500W PSU installed. Using a FOXCONN motherboard. All fans are working fine and I've checked GPU temp and it stays around high 20's/low 30's.

Any other ideas? Must be some way to get rid of this problem

I'm not sure, but I think you might need more than a 500w PSU for a quad and that video card

Hmm...well it came with the machine when I bought it. No custom job here  ;D

Bit of a kick in the face if a company is selling a machine that has an under par PSU for the hardware inside  >:(
