Silent hunter Four is a beautiful game.

However.

Fundamentally it is a very bad game. It initially had too many game killing bugs which caused crashes to desktop when the player attempted to use basic game controls. After Ubisoft abandoned product support for SH4 after releasing a couple of patches that barely scratched the surface for what the game needed, The Silent hunter community had to step in and create a great number of modifications and tweaks just to make SH4 remotely playable.

IMHO, SH4s older sister SH3 is a much more stable and enjoyable game. even in its stock, unmodified condition.

Silent Hunter 3, patched to version 1.4b, with GWX mod version 2.1 absolutely blows SH4 out of the water in the game play department... and almost in the graphics department as well.  ;)

the dev team will send you a CD if you agree to pay shipping usually.

but i still think that stock SH3 offered more improvements over SH2 than stock SH4 offered over SH3 if that makes sense.

still great shots though 8-)
