This is in essence a good idea, but I can see it getting ridiculous....

The top mark to be able to give is a 10.....surely this should be reserved for outstanding shots that are the best ever....I'm seeing some people give constant 9.5s and 10s...

the screenart gallery is a select and priveledged place to have a unique shot put....so even if the shot does have "some nice water" or "some nice clouds" these are effects achievable by anyone with a system good enough.

The gallery is not a place for showing off the power of your system, but for showing artistic skill as a screenartist.

All I'm saying is the gallery has to be something special and it is becoming quickly filled up by rate this entries which in the past would not have got in...

Well said, Mic. I feel that the integrity and creativity of our gallery should be maintained and should truly be selective about the shots make it. Once again, not trying to be controversial, just giving an opinion.  ;)

I say keep it but only if gallery judges overlook the shot before going in. I understand the gallery is for the truly best shots. If the continuation of false ratings increase then we may have to let it go. Also people should be motivated and really put effort in their shots. I see some shots that wouldn't compete with gallery Worthy shots and expect 9s and 10s.

I know what you're getting at, and it's a nice reminder...people might tend to rate other people's shots more highly in the hope of getting high ratings for their own, maybe. Plus there's an awful lot of rate this threads around, though at least it keeps things busy in here  :)

However, so far there is only one shot in there via Rate This that I wouldn't  actually have wanted to put there myself. Spyro's, PD87s, Aussiewannabe's for example are great.  And to be honest, half of mine which got democratically voted or fast tracked in there, I wouldn't have put there myself because I don't feel they're my best  :D

I say keep it, but keep an eye on it. Good call Mic!!

Many good points being tossed around. I think the most effective way to continue Rate This is to have it once a month for a week as Charlie initially suggested. That's the leading vote getter in the poll in any event.
