Compression problems

Postby Flying Buckeye » Mon Sep 10, 2007 1:03 pm

I have been having problems with compression. I have tried to get several images under the 100k limit but when i do the screenshot has a compressed look and usually ends up between 20kand 30k. Are there any good freeware programs out there to help with this?

This is the best free program out there and relatively simply to use. http://www.irfanview.com/

I used for a long time until I bought photoshop.
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 3.2 GHz
2 GB Corsair Dominator PC2-8500
8800GTX 768MB
22" Monitor
Vista Ultimate

I use photoshop, but I expect irfanview is similar - with each picture, when you save it, move the quality slider carefully to get the closest to your target Kb - usually 96 is best.

Other things - complex background = more KB....harder to compress and make look good
Red and some other colours don't compress well because they are so rich

You can also try making your shots only 700 wide - they are still adequate for viewing,  but you'll be able to get better picture quality.

Cheers
