Mic Pics!

Welcome to the first proper issue of Mic Pics. Sorry about how late it is but I had a lot of non Simviation work to do. I found some really good aircraft on Fs2004 Vintage page 34!

NOTE: Many of the pictures are linked to another picture of the aircraft to maintain the 500Kbs rule :)

Sikorsky VS-44 Avalon Air Transport
by George Diemer

This I found to be a very well modelled representation of the last fixed wing aircraft manufactured by Sikorsky. It handles very well and has lovely crisp textures and very good sounds. For VC lovers this model comes with a full VC with a Virtual Cabin also included!

Overall score......8/10!

SAAF DC3 Textures
by Rassie Erasmus

Nicely weathered textures for the default DC3. Gives the default DC3 a C47 look with a smart camouflaged paintjob. Only one complaint about this one really, and that is that the textures get a little pixalised as you zoom in.

Image

Overall score...7/10...a very nice repaint apart from the pixalising problem.

Boeing 221A Monomail
by Tim Conrad

I had never heard of this one when I loaded it up, but it turned out to be a very nice add-on. It handled well considering it was one of the first all metal monoplanes, and I even managed to pull a loop in it. It has a basic VC and a small Virtual cabin with no seats, but that will not effect your enjoyment of this plane. The United Airlines textures are well drawn, making this a very photogenic unusual aircraft.

Overall score...9/10

Boulton Paul Type P.75 Overstrand
by Edward Cook

Not really that much to say about this. The sounds were pleasant, but the model and the textures were lacking in many aspects.

Image

Overall score...a poor 4/10

Gloster G.41A "Trent" Meteor
by J.R Lucariny

I, being a fan of the more conventional jet meteor like this aircraft. The model is well constructed, but the cartoon like textures (well thats how I see them) may not be everyone's preference. It handles perfectly and is a very fun plane to fly.

Image

overall score...7/10

Fokker G-1 Mercury
by Kazunori Ito

An usual light bomber, the G1 handles very well and is very fast (it uses quite a lot of runway though). The model is generally good, especially the rear glass bubble which makes it very photogenic in dusk/dawn screenshots.

Image

Thats it...the whole of Page 34. You may have noticed I missed out some of the repaints. In the case of the Yak, they didnt want to work for me. In the case of the spitfire I wasn't too sure whether I had the model and didnt want to spend time searching for it.

My top recommendation from this page would have to be the Monomail, which is now one of my favourite FS planes!

Very interesting review, with tons of pictures. Great stuff. That Piglet one is bound to be the best though - it's by Piglet  ;) :)

I'll be sure to pick that one up once I start flying planes again.

Great pic on the G1, did you really have to use the nazi version for the pic though? The Germans stole it immediately when entering Holland.... :-[
