tutorial request

hi gents,

I've seen many editing of A/C included in photos and I would like to know what's the technic to properly cut and paste a shape (such as aircraft).
when using the cut tool from photoshop/paintshop, it's pretty hard to obtain clean contours, so how do you do it?

after having cut and paste the desired shape I guess that you have to work on the light to match the background and A/C lighting, again how do you do?

i usually zoom in and erase an area around the aircraft. then once youve gone around it in detail its ready to copy.

Hi Vince,

I can't give you a tutorial and I've never even edited a screenshot from the Sim but I use the 'erase background' tool in PSP quite a lot for other editing stuff. I think that this could also work for removing the background in a screenshot to free the aircraft. This way you can paste it as a selection (CTRL+E) in an other shot or add a background to the shot from which you just removed the background.

Try using the Magnetic lasso tool to select the plane, then cut it. Or maybe try the Polygonal lasso tool?

Make sure to do it slowly and make sure you select all features. Doing the editing before resizing to 800x600 helps too

ok, now how do you do to balance the lightning between the A/C and the background to make it look real?

I would say there is! Just fly to 100000ft on a clear day, so surounding is blue...position AC and camera...take your picture. Then paste into photo shop and select the blue with the lasso tool and delete it. Works pretty well, though sometimes you have to smoothen edges a bit to remove the jaggies.

As for the lighting, I use the brightness/contrast tool.  :)

This is what I'm always doing. Zoom up the aircraft to maybe 400%.





So when you have your selection you can cut out your aircraft with an extreme accuracy, far superior to any other technique IMHO. It takes little time and patience, but the result is great.

hi, normally i load up photo editor (default with MS)  and then go onto tools-> set transparent colour

then select the background, and it should remove it

Nex is using Photoshop in this example but Paint Shop Pro from Corel (nowadays, used to be JASC) is IMO just as good unless you're a professional graphics artist. And PSP is A LOT cheaper
