Rip This Pic! / How Would You Do It?

The always photogenic AH Seafire. How would you have taken this pic differently? What do you think are the positive and negative aspects of this screenshot?  :)

Hey nice idea Clipper! Here's my two cents worth

The sky is really cool, but I would have tried to brighten that plane up a bit. Some lightning would do the trick, but is tricky to catch, so I would try the under-lighting technique that you posted earlier.
Also, if that shot were by itself, like say in a contest, I would probably have an eye showing as that livery looks a bit strange to me with only a mouth. If it were one in a series however, I'd leave the angle just as it is--they can see the eyes in a different shot.

hi clipper!

uhm... turning the nav and strobe lights on may bring some light. not enough to light up the shot but enough to focuse on the seafire.

I wouldn't change anything to the sky, so far, as it's moody enough. depending on what the shot will become some weather tweaks may be usefull.
then, the angle... I just keep on wondering what the 2 "contrails" are? they bring some sort of perspective, but are also "disturbing". then depending on what they are, the angle could be changed to introduce them in the shot as part of it.
still on the angle side, as the A/C is photogenic why didn't you show more of it, either more of the belly ( tight turn) or more of the wings and cockpit? It would make the shot less "dynamics", but may be more eye 'tractive...

the moon somewhere in the shot...

here are my 2 cents...

For starters, it's a classic dark shot. If find them to be tricky. they work best with a dark background and low-light conditions in the room of the viewer.

The sky is just amazing! Pretty cloudlayers and a dramatic background.

Pity that the whole plane isn't in the picture... the left wing is clipped by the border of the frame.

The position of the plane makes it look powerfull!

Just my 2cents...

I don't really like these dark shots, so i would probably have it slightly lighter (not overtly coulourful dusk dawn etc. but murky) I dont really like the two lines behind the aircraft, and I think the eye of that gorgeous paint needs to be visible. Another option would to be make the plane a silhouette against the lighter cloud, rather than half and half.

Talking of mp Clipper, I can never find you on any more ::)

Any shot that "clips" a part of the aircraft off is a negative in my book!

If it were zoomed out just a hair to get the edge of that left wing in the frame, it would make the composition of the shot much better.

I agree dave, also considering there's a gap on the other side of the wings, there would be no harm in getting rid of that to fit in the end of the other wing.

Now were really warming things up!

Just a note: The clouds are created with PerfectSky, a free add-on for FS9. The method I used here is make a wide layer of cirrus at a density of 7/8ths, place it above your aircraft. Then create a cumulus layer also about 7/8ths density and spread it out so your aircraft appears right in the middle of it in the cloud settings graph. Bingo, a nice mix with some incredible cirrus formations created by PerfectSky. Need a more detailed How To?....just ask! :)

What I would do is certainly take onboard the advice to find some way of brightening the aircraft Clip, then perhaps lowering some altitude into the clouds so it stands out even better.....of course, leave some open sky at the top of the pic :)

I agree with the above: if one's going to clip off part of the aircraft, Clipper, then clip off a proper chunk. The cirrus is very nice  but it's all too dark, and the lower clouds lack body. With so many high quality paints and planes out these days it isn't really necessary to hide the deficiencies any more - because often there aren't any. But all in all, a fine pic.
