Saying good-by to the fellas...

Postby Flying Trucker » Tue Aug 14, 2012 6:49 pm

Good evening all... :)

Going to try and plan some kind of a camping trip using this FSX Simulator and have not got it all figured out yet, but if anyone has any ideas for showing tents and fly-in bush camps don't be afraid to give me a hint...

Not sure about the aircraft either...float or wheel
Not sure about how many legs/stops...
Three days to perhaps five days in length...

Using a small bug smasher the fuel and distance I can go and come back will be a factor unless I make a fuel stop somewhere.

The old girl, children and I did many a flying camping trip with many different durations in time and a few different types of aircraft, my favourite was our Cessna 337, the old girl loaded everything but the kitchen sink... ;D

Doing this on the computer is posing problems like trying to find a place with tents and aircraft that is remote.

Have spent much time trying to put something together and not much farther ahead than when I started... ;D

I would for sure take a fishing rod with me. ;)

I think the differences between the pics is the downing sun.
You can see it on the green car and yellow plane too.

Now that's some very good and clear shots.

Don't forget, Doug... ;)...

...(I keep saying it....endlessly!)... :'(....

Switch; "Shadows on", before taking the Screen Shots!

In the last Pic, "shadows" will also show the time of day by their direction, and length...
.and also indicate any objects that are actually sitting on the ground...and not floating in the air!

"Shadows" are your friend in the Sim...trust me!

Paul...A shadowy figure in FS 2004... ;)...!

When you're not sure about floats or wheels, take both. Amphibians are the kings of these regions. You have the Aerosoft Beaver right ? One of them is amphibian if I remember correclty. Of course, the default Grumman Goose (HD Redux from OzX) would be my first choice ;)

These shots are quite cool, once again. The only one I dislike is the last, because of this big portion of default ground texture behind the hangars, which doesn't look so good.

Have a good trip :)

Hi Paul... :)

HMMM...my shadows were all checked in the FSX Program, not sure why they are not working...I think there were three boxes checked...

Unless...

The ORBX Scenery/Weather cancelled them out.

I am surprised to see the change in the aircraft livery in shot #1 as opposed to shots #2 and #3.

I think this computer got into one of my bottles of Scotch Whisky without my knowing... :o     ;D

Hi Stephane... :)

Agree with you on the last shot, tried several angles and my objective was to show all three aircraft on the ground.

I also found this airfield boundary looks far too artificial and not quite sure I am happy with some of this stuff in ORBX.

However, since I am just in the beginning stages of experimenting with my new downloads I shall give them a chance to impress me... :)

Paul "Fozzer" brought up a good point here.

I did check to see the settings I used and all the boxes were checked in FSX Settings so not sure what happened to the shadows unless ORBX had something to do with the shadows.

I also used an ORBX Weather Setting in FSX.

Aircraft selection...you are right with the amphibian and that is a good way to go depending on the wheels one has on the amphibian.
There are several types and I remember one particular DeHavilland of Canada DHC-3 Otter I flew.

The two front wheels would have been useless on a rough grass strip and were for hard surface runways only.

There are several different types of wheels which can be used and one needs to choose and be able to afford the right set... :)

Most amphibious floats are either the cost of a bugsmasher or half the price of the aircraft.

Much as I would like to own a DeHavilland of Canada Beaver or Otter, even a Grumman Goose I would have had to sell all the children and the old girl to afford the fuel.

Perhaps I should have thought about that forty years ago... :o

Thanks bass, that is surely the King of the Bush (in real aviation), no doubt about it... ;)

I could never afford one in real life... ;D

I am trying to keep my simulated flight to smaller bugsmasher like the Cessna 185 or Piper Super Cub.

Something for just two people with some camping gear.

The Cessna 185 is a little larger than what I wanted and I would prefer something on wheels just because of the weight of the floats cuts down on the load capacity and I don't want to leave a bottle of Scotch Whisky behind... ;D

Any ideas on a bush flying strip that shows tents bass?

I have two ORBX Sceneries for the West Coast and I have not really explored them in FSX yet.

Again thanks for your interest and comments... ;)

For those of you interested, spend some time looking at the cost of:
-Floats
-Amphibious Floats...keep in mind there are different types

Talking about shadows, let's keep in mind that FSX will modify the intensity of the shadows depending on the weather and the time of day ;)

If i got the opportunity and could afford it, i would fly out from Aspen, Colorado to discover the lakes and the beautifull landscape.

Bass's screen shot is an excellent example of the importance of enabling; "Shadows" in all the screen shots...
It shows the Aircraft, etc, firmly planted on the ground!

It's a bit dark for distinct shadows in shots #1 & #2. I can see a trace of them on the player aircraft & the angle is wrong for the shadows to display in shot #3. I suspect that the other aircraft in all your shots are scenery objects which don't have shadows, unlike AI traffic.
