Departing for sunnier locales

Postby reachva » Wed Jul 11, 2012 10:14 pm

Reach Airways 241 departs from Brisbanes runway 01 in poor weather for the early morning flight to Hamilton Island.

So many screens seen of sunny happy locations so thought it was time for something a little more appropriate for showing the Australian Winter.

Very nice screenshot, the weather definitely looks a little bumpy  ;)

It was quite a bumpy departure yeah, hand flew the aircraft until I was above the worst of the winds before engaging the AP (was about FL120 I think). In stark contrast Hamilton Island was dry with a very easy (albeit slight crosswind) final.

Is that REX or HDE clouds?

These are Rex essentials clouds (number 51 I think, can't remember precisely as I chose at random). I use the 2048 resolution textures as they look fine and free up texture memory elsewhere to avoid getting OOM around orbxs YBBN (mostly on final).

I did have the HDE clouds installed but don't often use them much now as I'm quite happy with the way the new Rex weather engine works, the layering is a nice touch. Couldn't believe the fog I saw this morning in sim with visibility reduced to only a few feet. Had a very natural look to it as well unlike the default fog which suddenly vanishes above a fixed height.
