And in Cork, midleton and some other towns and cities in the south are flooded with above-waiste water due to heavy rain.

I HATE THESE LIMESTONE LAYERS!

The thing I love about Limestone geology, is that it produces some lovely scenery..underground caves and water-ways, Heathland, etc.

My local area, Herefordshire, is an "Old Red Sandstone" geology, with a red, clay soil...no caves!

Paul...ex Cave Explorer... 8-)...!

The county Cork has 2 main stones: red sandstone on top and everywhere in a few areas and limestone layers right below that,in some places the limestone is closer to the surface then other spots and because the water has no-where to go it causes flooding.
Another thing is is that the water sometimes erodes the limestone away so you get holes everywhere, the toll-road in fermoy for example has problems every year with put-holes because it sits ontop of a giant limestone slab near the surface.
Limestone does cause alot of caves tough, wich is nice,if they aren't in a farmers cow field and flooded like the nearby cloine caves. :-/
