Bougainville

Postby patchz » Sat Aug 14, 2010 5:05 am

I had not flown in the Solomons in a while, but thanks to olderndirt's 'Solomons 1943' post in Edited, I went back. There is some pretty nice scenery, especially looking back north towards Mt. Balbi from Mt. Taraka.

If you really want to appreciate the jungle canopy Dave, you need to get down to treetop level.

Thanks for looking.

If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.

Landed once, in my old Pacer, with a lot of spruce boughs in the gear - took off on the wrong tank, got the big mag drop and picked up some foliage before she caught on the good tank.

Crazy, I just had lunch on Thursday with some veterans who fought in the Solomons, mainly Guadalcanal and Tulaghi, but a couple of them had gone on to fight on Bougainville, was quite an honor to eat with them and listen to their stories  :o
