Keeping it cold

Good afternoon all...

FSX and Vista
Douglas DC3 from FSX
HDE Clouds
All Freeware

The Douglas DC3 unless modified did not have air conditioning or refrigeration for keeping beverages or food cold.
That door you see just behind the cockpit is where we laid everything we wanted to keep cold for a day flight.  The water, milk etc. would just sit on the floor. 
We always carried our own water from our home airport and sometimes if it was a weekend trip to set up caches of fuel, aluminum boats, motors, lumber etc. and we had to overnight away from an airport we would carry an ice cooler which held block ice and our food.
The emergency survival box and anything we wanted kept cold was in front of that little door...
Most caches were done in the winter and we landed on small lakes with wheel/skis as there was no landing strips.
Yes we would stay in a tent and there was usually only three of us to unload everything by hand and prepare the aircraft for a winter overnight away from home.

In the winter here, we keep most things we want to keep cool in our garage, and then adjust our refrigerator's temperature to not run near as much.

Allows for more heater use in the house.

[color=#000000]I'd like to think so, but I am not nearly as handy as he was. When it came to mechanic, plumber, and carpenter, there wasn't much he could not do. But I was a lot better with computers.

You mentionned your winter flights with skis, did you know there's a modified version of the default DC-3, nammed "Awesome4some", which has skis on the wheels ? You might want to take a look at it, it's available right here at SimV, in the... err... FSX props or FSX Vintage section, I can't remember...

Not sure how many here have flown in or as crew on the old girl with wheel skis but they could be a handful on landing on unprepared lakes...
