To the Stars!

Postby CaptainCub » Mon Jun 07, 2010 11:52 am

Was going through some of my old images on my system and found this shot of a Beech Starship woth the moon as a backdrop:

As I understand it, they only built a handful of these before production stopped, so I guess they'll become rare classics in the future like warbirds and 1930's era aircraft are to us! :)

A classic example of a plane way to far ahead of it's time. If it had been produced today, I'd be willing to bet it would have had a much longer life.

(Cool shot BTW)

I see that come and go at our FBO across the runway over here, every now and then.

most of them were sent to Marana here in Arizona where they were cut up.  I heard there were only two left flying and one was owned by the Government.  WHen I was down at Marana several years ago there were like 10 or them parked on the ramp, engines pulled and mostly gutted, they were quite the sad site.

:'(Wow, you mean no one wanted to buy one? Iwould think they wouldn't build any unless they had orders from customers first.

Beechcraft won't allow them to be sold.  Unfortunately, they want the Starship dead and they've very nearly succeeded.  Walter Beech would be turning over in his grave if he knew that...
