Soaring again

Postby Daube » Thu Jan 14, 2010 4:54 pm

Hi all,

I'm pretty much spending all of my FSX time exploring the Alps with the new mountain mod, just to re-discover the places I knew and liked, to find that I love them even more now. I did a small flight starting from Alpnach Mil, going up the valley, and passing over the mountains to reach Meiringen Mil where I would land. This flight is quite short but perfect for sight-seing.

The weather was quite nice, I set up just a bit of winds for ridge-soar to be effective (16 knots from North-West), I just had to follow the left-side of the valley and the plane was gently climbing.

The end of the valley comes quite fast. On my right was this nice lake, and the road start to make narrow curves to clim the "wall". Behind the wall, there is the valley with Meiringen Mill, and Interlaken Mil just on the other side of a big lake :)

The wall was passed successfully (and easilly too). Under my plane lies a small town, must be Meiringen but I'm not too sure. My eyes kept attracted by those big mountains over there...

... but shortly I had to refocus on my destination, that had just appeard on my right. Time to dive into the valley for a nice landing again, the flight is over for today  8-)

your scenery look very cool. i also like flying the alps. there you are, 18 or 20,000 f. minding your own business, you look down and there are airplanes taking off from an obscur airport in the valley right under your belly. fun!

Hey Daube, what is this new mountain mod you are talking about?
Also, just wanted to say congrats for beautiful screenshots that documented your flight =)

Thanks guys for the comments :)

PFevrier, I'm refering to the topic that I created last week, about a mod that changes the way FSX draws the mountains. You can find the explanations and comparative screenshots here: http://205.252.250.26/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaB ... 1263044506

If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.
