"Default & Freeware" cocktail, with a little bit of ice, please :)

Postby Daube » Sat Dec 19, 2009 4:14 pm

Hi all,

There's been some snow falling yesterday in Nizza (LFMN).
That's very rare, and snow always puts me in a good mood. Fired up FSX and went for my favorite short flight, Sion to Habere-Poche, with "Heavy Snow" weather them.

The ground and sky textures are default.
The plane is the default Baron (I love it)
The clouds are from HDE package of course.
The Mesh is freeware, LOD11 for the Alps here: http://c30s.alpes.gratisim.fr/
The ice... falls from the sky, as you can see :)
It has been one of the most scenic flight of the last few months, I have to say. Hope you like !

I love 3 and 4. The anlges and weather are great. However, I don't like how there are small parts of the plane cut off in many of these.

Thanks for the nice comments gentlemen :)

B-Valvs, I see what you mean for th cut parts, but sometimes when you want to make a shot really close to the plane, you get forced to "sacrifiy" some parts of it in order to emphasize the details of the other parts.
It makes an interesting variation in the angles, in fact.

Mazza: sure, let me upload it somewhere. I'll post the link here.

Terrific shots of my favourite flying region  :)

For the default Baron, that looks very crisp and sharp.  What's your secret?

When I save my shots, I don't set anything about pixels/inch.
I just care about the compression quality, I set it in order to match the forum rules, nothing more.

You might have to use NHancer. Or at least, you have to ensure that you are manipulating the FSX profile in the NVidia drivers, not just the global settings. 1440x900 is a good resolution. With an AA set to 8x and an AF set to 8x or 12x, you should be able to get nice screenshots.

What software do you use for saving/resizing your screenshots ? PAINT.NET is freeware and has always given me nice results.

[color=#000000]If my default Baron looked that good, I'd love it too. Very nice set Daube.

If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.

Thanks Patchz :)
By the way, the Baron was amongst my favorite planes back in my FS9 days, together with the Bravo. I used to fly those planes a lot ! Mostly because of their pleasant virtual cockpits.
And let's be honnest, even in FS9, the baron (and the Bravo) were not ugly at all. I really really liked them !

Paint.Net has been my mainstay and I have Gimp.
