Visiting the outpost ! Part 1: takeoff and cruise

Postby Daube » Sun Sep 13, 2009 7:56 am

Hi all,

I have just finished a small flight (less than an hour) from Bella Coola to some outposts 70 miles south-east of there, using the freeware Albatros. Started the flight in the early morning, time to prepare the plan:

The weather seems to be quite nice, not a cloud, almost no wind...

Took off with no problems, then headed south east for a VFR flight with a simple direct-GPS road to the destination. The only tricky part is to get passed the mountains, but then the only thing you need are sunglasses  8-)

Once passed the snowy peaks and glaciers, the green valleys are back, meaning that destination is getting close...

Next part: landing and parked :)

Looks great, and also looks c-c-c-cold!

Thanks for the kind comments :)
For this area of the world I'm just using some freeware mesh, I believe 19m mesh... wait, Bella Coola is in Canada, right ? It's not Alaska yet at this lattitude ?  :-?

Daube,
What albatros are you using. I have been looking for a good one but haven't been satisfied with any of the ones I found.

Thanks.

I believe it's the former payware Albatros from Alphasim.
It's a very old model that they released recently as freeware.
As you can see in my screenshots, it features some new views (like, under the wing, and also the right seat in the virtual cockpit) typical from FSX, so I guess I downloaded it from the FSX props section here in Simviation.

EDIT: no sorry, my mistake, i's the freeware Albatros from Greg Pepper and Micheal Verlin's.
You'll find it here: http://www.simviation.com/simviation/?I ... &mark=4772

If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.
