FS Water Configurator+'s Global Warming Mode

Postby Ashton Lawson » Thu Dec 18, 2008 6:49 am

Dear Flight Simulator X Fans,

Global warming is becoming an increasing concern, and the team and I wanted to do our part to help warn people of the consequences of continuing to use non-renewable, carbon-emitting sources of energy.

So, since we know FS Water Configurator is fairly widely used these days, we know we'll reach a fairly large audience with the upcoming FS Water Configurator+, and so we added a "Global Warming" mode to the program.

Here's an example of what this mode will do:
Image

That image shows what will happen as the oceans rise due to the melting of the Arctic and Antarctic glaciers caused by increased heat being trapped in our atmosphere due to increased levels of carbon-dioxide caused by conventional fossil-fueled vehicles such as cars, motorcycles, ships and aircraft :(.

Please do your part to support alternative energy sources, to save our precious planet :).

Ashton, Paul, and Nick

P.S.

Melting of ice caps at the antarctic = rise in sea levels, True
Melting of ice caps in the arctic = rise in sea levels, False
Bonus points to anyone who can explain why? ;D

could'nt resist correcting that, its the budding geologist in me coming out ;)

But yeah, cool pic, makes you think...

Antarctic ice is land-based.. Arctic is is already dispacing ocean water.. won't raise sea-level, anymore than ice melting in a glass of water will raise that level.

That side.. I'll point out that this can get political.. and add that we've already passed the date where original global warming alarmists had NCY 1/2 under water

Ah, I see, I never thought of that.

Then again I never think about a lot of things :D.

Either way, whether it effects the earth or not, there're still gasses released from the burning of fossil fuels that poison us directly, so if we ain't causing global warming, we're definitely killing each other (slowly anyway) :o.

Still, marvel at the glitch of a water shader 8-).

Yeah.. that's the shame here. We definately have an impact on the environment.. Conservation and ecology, and just common sense dictate that we should strive to minimize it. The groups that politicize it are far more harmful than the problem they use for leverage, and propaganda. (and that's as political as I'll get) Besides.. we're all suppose to be dead now, from a depleted ozone layer (or was that acid rain ?)  :-/

And yes.. The water shader is pretty cool  :)

P.S.  FSWC+ does not actually have a Global Warming mode, the above image is just a small glitch we came across during some testing .  That's not to say you shouldn't help cut back on your carbon-emissions though ...

Ok, answer has already been given for first point but, your allegation about ice caps in the Arctic is false... the sea level Will rise when Arctic ice-caps melt - you forgot Greenland! HUGE icecap there...

as to the Geologist part - I am going the same way! currently enrolled in Geology classes at the University...

You called my bluff sir ;)

Most pople consider greenland a seperate entity, ie, arctic, antarctic and greenland ice sheets, though you are of course correct, Greenland comes under the arctic circle ;D
Ill, now retreat shamefully back into my atlas ;)
