Mine and Everyone's favorite plane

Postby DeeBee » Wed Jan 02, 2008 3:12 pm

The Piper Cub J-3, last fixed by Tony Gould. Pilots and Non-pilots all over the world would claim the Piper Cub as their favorite airplane, it certainly is mine!Piper Cub J-3.jpg 58366 bytes Upload ok Image

Eurofighter > Piper Cub  ;D

Its an interesting shot... could have done with a bit of AntiAliasing on the shot, but its quite good. I've got no idea how you got that black background though...

The cub is parked in a hanger at Seattle-Tacoma airport.

If AA kills your FPS a lot I suggest you fix the camera in your preferred position, hit ALT go to options...display...hardware or whatever it is check the AA box click OK take the pic turn AA back off. That's what I do ;)

Pftttt....Amateurs... ::) F-35>F-22>F-15>F-16>F-86F>P-51>P-38>F-105>F-104>Hurricane>F-4>F-100>AH-64> Eurofighter>Spitfire>Cub>C172....... :P

Move F-35 to the end, and bring the F-104 and F-4 higher up... and a bit more reshuffling...

I guess I have to admit, I'm an old person that grew up during WW2 making model airplanes (rubber band models) and it seems like even then everyone new the Piper Cub. I could  have taken a picture of the C-130 or fighters and dive bombers such as the P-38, Grumman Avenger, Hellcat, etc. but they lasted only for a war, except for the few that are still flying. Or I could have shot the F-14, F-15, or even the F-22 all with their after burners and rockets and such, but they are current and have no history.

The Piper Cub J-3 trained 75% or our pilots for WW2 and have been at nearly every airport in the country at one time or another. They are still flying and are being built today under a new name, The Legend Cub, by the American Legend Aircraft Co. It has been improved aomewhat but is painted yellow with a black streek of lightning down the sides, for the most part it is the piper cub.

Somewhere I read, not too long ago that a large percentage (80% ?) or all Piper Cubs are still flying till this day.

So you see, whether I win this Dec. contest or not, I couldn't pick some other aircraft and put the cub as number two or such. It's the champ in my mind, and it looks like it will be the champ forever.

Happy flying everyone,   DB   :D :D :D

Good point...

but on the other hand, all those old warbirds had more glamour and charisma. 'The star that shines twice as bright lives half as long'...

Which means the F-14's afterburners, and its status as a warbird, makes it #1, just like I said ;)!
