A few shots of a vertical takeoff in a twin prop.

I was in a 25-35 kt thunderstorm and at the hold short after landing when all of the sudden i took off!! I had my flaps down and the engine idling when the plane lifted off. this plane has a 30 kias stall speed with the flaps down. it is crazy.

AN-14 from Avsim and jandakot(i think thats how it's spelled) scenery by westsim also from avsim.

Anyone else have this plane?

I just parked it at a different airport (after leaving that storm) and noticed that when it is on the ground the slats won't say in one place. they dance in and out. They are not linked to the flaps so i guess it has something to do with some xml coding. Anyone know what is going on?

EDIT: Figured it out... the slats are activated by angle of attack. i'm guessing that when the plane is at a dangerous angle of attack the slats extend to try and protect the plane from a catastrophic stall. When you are on the ground the sim is saying there is a 0.00 angle of attack and the XML doesn't know what to do, Hence the "dancing"

It's more fun doing that in a 777 - put on 200 knot headwind, apply full flaps and full power (or idle the engines, your choice) and pull back on the stick :D

Nice shots showing this fun phenomenon!

It's even MORE fun in say, a 744!

Or a B-1B...

Or a Tu-160...

Thats by design!

That plane was designed to be flown by pilots who learned flying by taking a written exam on the flight manual. Its close to uncrashable

Been there, done that. Fun in LOMAC (quit complaining that there is no Harrier), especially when loaded up with CBUs. ;)
