New System, New FS, Beautiful New World...

Postby Triple_7 » Tue Aug 07, 2007 8:20 pm

At last the beast is alive and well.  Took an upgrade to FS9 as well.  After pathetic frame rates and graphics all this time I'm truly blown away by the smoothness and detail of the new world in which I fly 8-)

Decided to hop in an American 757-200 and take a quick scenic flight around LAX.  (Compression kinda killed them :-[ )

7000 feet and heading for the Santa Monica VOR.

Taking the Stadium Visual into LAX's 24L, makes for a good overview.  Been on this approach twice in real life.  First was coming in from DFW around 11:30 at night, so couldn't get any shots, also my first flight on a 757 with Winglets 8-)  Second time was on a Malaysia 747-400 from Taiwan about 7:30 PM, have plenty of shots from that landing :P  Quite an interesting approach.

Flying next to the Harbor Freeway.

Sharp descending turn for final.  Gear and flaps extending.

Almost down.  To dark after landing for more shots.

Will be taking more scenic day flights to show more, but I like sunset and couldn't help but make them my first set of screens :P

My around the world tour has picked up again, already made 2 flights which brought me back to the states.  Will be making my way to Asia before long.  Will post some of those shots later tonight.

Its amazing to take these flights with the FPS locked in at 30 and never see them drop :o  FS9 is fully maxed out and I can fly into some pretty high detail airports, such as Bangkok Suvarnabhumi, and not have even a fraction of stutter or even loose a frame 8-)  Flown into a heavy storm and had no effect.  Will be working on my AI over time, hopefully be having EVA and China Airlines joining me in the sky soon ;)

Great to finally enjoy FS the way it should be.  My highest ever frames I was able to hold in FS2002, mid settings, external view, was around 14 on a mid detail model.  Now I'm flying Meljets and not even a hint of FPS loss.  Used to get around 3-5 FPS with one of those :o  Holding 30 FPS while throwing everything at it is truly a new experience for me [smiley=beer.gif]

And last but not least...The Specs:

Intel Core 2 Duo 3.0 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB, E6850 CPU.
2 Gigs OCZ PC8500 (1066 MHz) DDR2 RAM.
512 MB PCI-E GeForce 8500GT DDR2 Graphics Card With DirectX 10.
Gigabyte S-Series P35-DS3R Motherboard.
160 GB SATA 3.0GB Hard Drive.
430W Thermaltake PSU.
DVD/CD Burner.
Windows Vista Home Basic 64-Bit.

With 2 120MM case fans, heavy duty CPU cooler, 2 small fans in the PSU, and a fan less graphics card.  This thing runs extremely cool :o

Worth every penny ;D

Must be a nice feeling to nail the autogen to the wall and not see an FPS drop huuh. 8-)

I can only wait for my first experience....

Lovely shots.

Aye ... that sure is nice isn't it. I'm mostly locked at 30 too. I could give it 35-36 but I'd like to have a little breathing room over crowded airports.

This thing runs extremely cool

But oh boy what a noise ;D

Congratulations on the new machine T. Looks indeed 'worth every penny'!

Congratulations, T7!!!!! That looks like a monster system! Any plans on trying "the cross" on it? I bet it would give you more than decent results!

Frank.

Thanks :)

But oh boy what a noise ;D

Surprisingly its nearly silent...I catch myself looking into the case just to make sure all the fans are actually running, they were all just under full RPM when I checked the stats last.  I can barely hear it at all sitting right next to it 8-)

This thing tops out at LAX with no traffic around 45 FPS.  Locked in at 30 simply because theres no sense in running much higher.  The human eye can only detect so much, 30 is incredibly smooth.

"the cross"

I tried the demo of FSX before picking up my FS9.  I maxed it out and took it for a spin around SXM.  22 FPS was the highest hold and no AI aircraft.  Still nice and smooth but why not keep to FS9 that I can max out, have tons of add-ons, clouds, AI, etc and still hold at least 25-30 FPS :P
