Not LOMAC...

Postby ATI_7500 » Thu Mar 15, 2007 9:20 am

...but IL-2:FB.

Even after three years, it looks excellent.
Cloud shadows, fluffy clouds for playing hide-and-seek, excellent aircraft handling, excellent sense of speed, nice AI...

Ju-88 about to scare some russian ships.

Rolling in for the bomb run. What an awesome sight!

My very own 109G2.

Those sneaky russians set up a trap for me!
I went after the first LaGG, chased him for a couple of minutes, before his wingman, who was actually already out of the fight, snuck up on me.
He then lured me into this vertical climb where his wingman could get close.
When I realized that I was being followed, I tried to make a run for it.
But too late - I was just about to pull out of the climb, when a couple of shots hit my engine.
Losing power by the minute, there wasn't much point in limping back to the next airfield - would've probably got shot down anyways.
So I bailed and let the Wehrmacht give me a ride back home.

Other than that I'm doing fine - two kills so far. :D

G2, in my opinion the best 109 ever built, armored and armed well enough, still not too heavy and she has enough power.

2nd is really great ! Is that an expansion which includes the 88, or is it simply an AI bird ?

Well, it's actually just an F-4 with a stronger engine.

But that's what makes it so great.

That was an AI bird.

But if I remember correctly, there was a patch that made the Ju-88 flyable.
I'm not sure 'though.

Very nice shots....

I played that game a few times, but I'm really bad at combat sims. I remember flying for ages and then, on meeting the enemy, getting blown out of the sky with 2 options remaining:

1: start flying for ages again - boring
2: watching the combat - great fun

Because I kept dying immediately I never got to improve... but I am a bit of a lamer ;D

I was just wondering if there was a feature or mod that let you jump into another plane once your one got shot down, to continue the fight. That would really make the game more attractive for lamers like me....

I'm thinking of buying the new 'megapack' anyway, just for taking pics with tracer and smoke and explosions and fire and stuff  :)

The "Wehrmacht"  would have been too busy getting stafed by Russian planes to bother about getting you home.    ;D

Apart from repaints, there are no mods for IL-2.

What's so bad about getting shot down?
It's only bad if you've got to bail over hostile territory. ;)

The key to success in the IL-2 series is trying and trying and trying.

I agree, it's a bit hard in the beginning, but as soon as you can keep your butt flying for the duration of a mission you can invest your time in dogfighting and trying to score.

P.S: "Time compression" is your best friend in IL-2. Along with the "Slow time" and "Pause" keys. ;)

Get the complete edition. It should cost less than fifteen Euros.

The simplicity of theses screenshots is what I really like about them!

Especially the last one!
