The "missile" is an AIM-7 and one of the worst medium range missiles ever...at least in real-life. It hits pretty well in Strike Fighters.

P.S: Next step is setting the settings to ultrareal, right? ;)

Well I was flying on the harder settings for a while, but boy, it can be challenging.  These birds are like bricks when you throw them into hard turns.  So I took a break and set it to easy just to have some fun.  On easy the AIM-7 is accurate, at one point I got a beagle from somewhere between 20 the 30 miles.

of course you aren't supposed to throw a f-4 into a hard turn. it take 40 kts of wind over the deck of the carrier to get the stupid brick in the air. my dad was on the midway in vietnam and if it was a dead calm day the carrier would get up and do 40 to launch them. all the talk that say that a carrier can only do 25 is bull. the midway was a diesel carrier and could do that. think of what a nuke can do. the only ships in a task group that can keep up with the carrier are the subs. the rest spread out in a long line and stayed with the carrier as long as possible.

And my AIM-9s mostly hit. It's all in the way you launch them. ;)

Meh, the later AIM-9G/H's have acceptable (and I use that very loosely) hit rates...

...but with the early ones, unless both you and your target are flying straight and level, it take would take a minor miracle and devine intervention to even come close...and even then, I seen them just streak right past without exploding (talk about blue balling :P)

The later AIM-9s are so good, you even expect one to miss.

The best version of it is the "M", btw.
