That would be the RX-78GP03 Gundam "Dendrobium Orchis".

It's in the show "Gundam 0083: Stardust Memories" I believe.

Why are the Japanese so obsessed with 10-story high, walking machines that look like oversized Samuri warriors? ;D

Gundam... This serie is a real legend in Japan.
I think this anime began somewhere in the end of the seventies, and it was always extended with parallel series. So far it's the most famous space opera in this contry. I really have to get some DVDs of that stuff, never really saw it in TV yet...

In all the toy shops in Tokyo, at least half (sometimes 3/4) of the space is always reserved for the various Gundam models (articulated and very detailled robots). It's amazing the choice you get  :o

As a result, I had so much trouble finding some Robotech models, but I could ;)
