some snaps from Jimbo's tour #20

Postby beaky » Sun Feb 04, 2007 11:55 pm

Finally made the lineup for a MP tour... fun stuff! ;D

Good turnout! This was my second MP group session after the last airshow... still getting the hang of it.

Started in the Skyhawk, but got behind (forgot I had crash detection on and got bumped out when somebody impatiently passed me trying to get to the hold-short line for departure... ::) ), so I switched to the DC-3 to get a little more airspeed (and because I haven't flown "my precious" in a long while).

Then I got kicked off the server, but got back on and managed to catch up with the pack again.

'Til next time... ;)

Last one: Plane sinked in concrete? :P

BTW how is that working? You can fly online on servers (over internet)? Can you explain that a bit? I don't get all the smarty 50000-pages long readme-stuff and I would love to mess with others... ::)

I've read you have to download this software for it, then I'm on the readme for 'this' software, which tells me to download "first" 'that' software. Then I'm on the readme for 'that' software, which tells me that it will only work if I first download and install another software, which also requires thousand softwares. :o *passed out*

Wich DC-3 is that? It looks great!!

MP is great fun, i had a session last night, we were supposed to fly in the B-58, but everyone was in the new F-28, turned out some decided to go VFR with a B737 ;D. Had a helluva time guiding them in as a ATC.

I believe the Simv MP is in another forum, wich is using FS host, and only requires some ports to be set-up, though it doenst always work as good as other software.

Then you have IVAO and VATSIM, both using there own piece of all inclusive software, wich is alright i suppose.

And last but not least, FSinn, wich does suck up resources but has a whole lot more options for MP. They also have there own server.

Ok, re the last few posts:

The "sinking" plane (or levitating plane, bouncing plane, or jumping plane): just an odd quirk of MP flight. Some  players' "worlds" are not quite synched with the others'. why, I don't know.

The only software you need for MP flight on this server is MSFS. Not sure how it works with FSX, but with FS9 it's simple.

If you have a headset and want to talk online instead of typing in the chat window, you need separate software and you must connect simultaneously with a voice server.

The wordy how-tos are worth reading, Edogawa, but basically, for flight online with the SimV sever anyway, you just need to make sure the correct (default) ports are open, then you need the correct IP address for the server.

I've found sometimes you need to start the session before you load your flight, and sometimes it works best the other way around... and sometimes the connection is lost... it requires patience sometimes.

The DC-3 is the MAAM-SimDC-3 (Whoops! That's payware...I forgot). A couple of the others have it, but I joined the session in the default DC-3 then switched, so those without the payware add-on will still see a DC-3.   It looks and flies about a million times better than the default version... if you like Gooneys, it's worth every penny.

Bob: No, it wasn't you, I think... regardless, I should've had Crash Detection off anyway, so it was my fault. ;D

How does FS decide how to show other users' aircraft if you don't have them installed? Would it be able to use an AI model instead?

I would really appreciate to do sth like that (I've never done sth like that before). How much system resources does it need (my Specs below in sig)?

With FShost MP doesnt require any extra resources AFAIk.

it detemines the plane on the ICAO code. So if you have a payware cessna 172 that carries C172 and and the default one that also carry's the C172 then other users will see the default one if they dont have the payware installed.

Though i believe FShost doesnt always get it right.
