That's a nice plane you have there.  :)

I am just a train fan who happens to like flying and attempting to get the better of the mods especially those with 20/20 vision ;D ;D

I have been checking out that Airplanespotter site everyone keeps linking to...  and it seems that "doing the checkerboard"  is a favorite approach of realworld pilots as well...

I tell ya though.... if it was me... I would be pee'ing my pants about halfway though the 90x90 turn....  :)

I flew that approach once in a LH B744 as a passenger of course, when I was younger. It was 1996 or 1997.

You think first ok, I'm about to land in a few second, because you can already see which clothes are on the houses balcony for drying and then you start turning right and you think ...???? What the...????  And then comes the touchdown. Awesome approach. Pilots needed an extra licence, as far as I know for that approach.

Greetings,
Fabian

Wouldn't surprise me. Pilots need an extra certificate to land at Innsbruck also.

I have to say that it's much much easier in real life than in the sim!!!

Sorry Mees, almost forgot ya ::)!

Same I wrote here:
http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2 ... 66692074/0

It's FS9. Wouldn't get such results with my GeForce4 using FSX.

Of course one might ask which scenery! It's a little bit tricky. What you are seeing here are actually 3 sceneries. Some buildings are 3d, some are 2d.

1st: autogen building for Hong-Kong:
"Hong Kong Autogen Buildings Version 2.00 for FS2004 ONLY
by Eddie Chan" hkautogen2.zip on avsim

2nd: VHHX Scenery: kaitak98.zip on avsim by Jim Vile for the airport.

and 3rd: here comes the trick:
download Kai Tak 2000, Version 3, it's kaitak.zip on avsim by Thomas Kwon and copy "KOWLOON.bgl" and the textures into the aiports's directory. and that's it.

I did that, because Rollerballs VHHX scenery crashed my FS9, don't know why, I think I installed it correctly, maybe due to some scenery confilcts.

If you've got problems installing it PM me.

Hope that helped,

Greetings,
Fabian

You did, and you told us good......

Fun approach in the sim, and in reality I suspect what pilots post on sites and claim in bars, and what they actually felt while negotiating that tricky approach are two different things... if they're flying it and thinking 'Yeah, wheee, what a blast' there might actually be something wrong  :D

I've gotta check this out!  I've heard it mentioned but never tried it.  Looks like a nightmare :o.

Those are some beautiful shots and I love the reflections on that plane! 8-)
