The Codling

Postby Lazerbeak » Wed Dec 06, 2006 11:47 pm

If I had to compile a list of my favourite airliners, the spry little Yak-40 would be a very high-ranker. I don't normally tend to fly airliners, but there's just something about this one that draws me to it. I've always liked the look of small jetliners, and I adore Russian birds (did my signature and avatar give it away?), and this neat little fella has the best of both worlds. Having said that, imagine my joy when I stumbled upon this beauty of a package, the SCDS Yak-40. It has everything I could ask for: a gorgeous external model (3 of them, to be exact), an in-depth yet easy to use panel, a stunning VC (with fully modelled cabin, no less), a great sound, and more paints than you can shake a stick at. I took this little 'liner up for a spin around Novosibirsk today, and snapped a few shots while I was at it. Enjoy.

I started my flight by loading my pretend PAX via the Yak's built-in airstair (reminiscent of the 727's).

I then taxied to the runway, passing an Aviacon Zitotrans Il-76TD along the way.

Then I took to the skies.

A view of the aforementioned beautiful VC.

One last shot of the Codling. She's a real peach to fly.

No landing shots because I didn't actually land anywhere. :P

Now, I should mention that when I downloaded this package, it was labelled as "shareware". It does have some limited functionality in the panel (some of the more advanced instruments are left out), but it is otherwise a 100% complete, fully-functional package. I've posted this in the Freeware forum because it seemed to be the most appropriate area, given that it is, for all intents and purposes, a freeware package. Still, I'll leave that decision to the mods.

High Flight Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared

Lol, nice shots, reminds me of a little kid with big eyes (wheels).   Er, just to me anyway.

The large wheels were one of the things that drew me to it, as they make it look smaller than it really is. As a result, it looks a bit like a toy, which I found to be somewhat charming. ;D

You can find it on Avsim or Flightsim, just search for scyakv14.zip.

All 40 repaints can be found on Flightsim (do a search for SCDS to get the whole list). They were made for version 1.3, but are also compatible with v1.4.
