Don't worry Mav - they are a big improvement on FS2002 and 2004 (don't forget my graphics suck in FSX) PLUS we now know that it will be possible to add 3rd party moving carriers. So beautiful models like the ones in the FS9 carrier pack will be possible in FSX - moving.

Give you an example.

Imagine the Midway package with moving landable carriers. Then imagine it in MULTIPLAYER!!!!

The last bit is pure speculation but....... :o

Don't know whether anyone else has tried this yet but I found that in some ways its easier to land on a moving carrier than a stationary one. If you're approaching at say 130kts and the ship's steaming at 40 kts say, the approach speed you 'see' is only 90 kts. So it's a bit like landing a C172 a bit fast on a short runway  ???

It's tricky playing around as I did because it's hard to find a carrier steaming in a straight line long enough to land on (they all seem to stop and turn left just before you touch down  ::) ). But I did OK on the Trike by finding a carrier and turning really close in and sharp and then it was almost like standing still over the deck and just descending vertically.

What happens when you are parked on the deck, and then the carrier turns ? Does your plane properly "turns" with him? No bugs in that area ?

Let's face it, we can't tell properly from this demo and don't forget, these carriers are moving more like power boats, because that's what they are based on.

Having said that, I landed on a carrier using the FS2004 Cub and soon afterwards the carrier stopped and just sat in the water for a while. I then taxied back to the stern and turned round to face the bow. The carrier than began a quick turn to the left.........and the Cub rolled over on the deck and crashed  :)

Hardly surprising given the speed of the turn - but carriers (unlike power boats) don't do that in real life!

When I first did this the other day, I landed on a carrier in the FS2004 Bell and just as I was landing on the deck the carrier began to turn ...... and the Bell went flying off the side!

So really, given what the carriers were doing the results were quite realistic  :D

One thing I've noticed is that if you are in a taildragger (eg FS2004 Cub, Jenny) and the demo resets like after a crash, the plane will not restart from the runway - the tailwheel just falls through the tarmac and you get a crash every time.

Great, this is what I wanted to know. The physics of the plan remains "realistic" whan it is standing on the "ground". Very pleased to see that, thanks for the info :)

I can imagine someone using this new carrier feature to create AI C-130s that can carry user-operated cargo like a Humvee. ;D
