AI formation flying - NOT!

Postby gryshnak » Sun May 14, 2006 3:16 pm

I had an idea for this month's screenshot comp, with a whole bunch of He111's flying together - not exactly in a formation, but at least close to each other.  How to do this with AI?  Get them to take off from the same airport one minute apart, and arrive at the same destination in the reverse order.  That way they'll all be together at the midpoint of the flight, right?  It was a good theory.

I organised half a dozen planes, set them rolling, and caught up with them halfway to the target.  Sure enough, they were flying close together...

Ah well, back to the drawing board...

You omitted vertical separation in your calculations.  :D

That's actually a very good idea... though it would be a bugger to get a decent angle on them, at the right point in time.
