The First of Many, or: A New Arrival

Postby Travis » Fri Mar 31, 2006 1:39 pm

" . . . So my great-aunt Sara died not too long ago, and left me enough money to actually get together what I've always wanted: my own private air strip on a little island.

"The idea is to build a commercial transit business, trooping tourists and scientists out to this little tropical backwater called Palmyra.  Its a tiny atoll south of Hawaii, between the island of Hawai'i and American Samoa.  Tourists love this kinda place because of the magnificent beaches (an atoll is an island that rose up from the combination of a coral reef and a dead volcano), and scientists are just itching for a chance to get out here and discover some new species or other.

"So I'm gonna give 'em that chance.

"But first: gotta have the transportation . . .

"So I used a little bit of Auntie's Euros to buy a little-known but well-built boat called:

The Stratojet Albatross

"I tell ya', this thing is amazing.  Not only can I now land ANYWHERE I want, I also have the luxury of travelling at Mach .75!  The twin jets on this thing can take off within 1000 feet, but can push this mean mother to unthought-of speeds.

"She's also a real beaut to look at, especially when she's bare naked.  I haven't decided what to paint 'er, but it'll be something slick, I can guarantee.

Image

"So we get off to a little rocky start; so sue me . . . :P

"Racing along to Palmyra, I could feel the engines wanting to push harder, so I just opened 'em up wide!

"As we neared the halfway point, I took a little detour to see how my next secret project was coming.  You can see it way off in the distance, there.  This thing is so secret, I'm not even going to tell you what island its on.  Just a little snub out there, somewhere!

Image

"Don't worry; as soon as the Biggie's all ready, the whole world's gonna know about it . . .

"Had a few of my new employee's come out on my new yacht and a tug and put in a few little buildings, a runway and a little bit o' home.

"And there it is, my newest oasis!

Image

"I simply can't wait to get this loverly babe on the ground and get some REAL work into her!  If you see a great streak of something go flying by out in the Pacific in the next few weeks, don't worry: its just a lumbering ol' Albatross . . . ;D
