BTW, as much as I like them, the Spitfire and the B-17 did NOT save Europe. The main and most succesfull aircraft in the Battle of Britain was the Hurricane. If we had lost that battle, Hitler would have been clear to invade the UK and we were nowhere near prepaired for that and would have lost the war before the Americans joined us in Europe.


...And that's why I nominated it. ;)

That plane was built in 1945, and is still flying today.  Not just flying, but RELIABLY and PROFITABLY carrying Cargo throughout the Caribbean.  60 years, and still a reliable cargo plane.  I rest my case, if you dont think the DC-3 is the greatest aircraft of all time, then you must be crazy
