Congo's Canyons Progress

Postby congo » Tue Mar 07, 2006 8:07 pm

The new canyons scenery is getting close to completion with the terrain now finalised.

I changed the location to the Western Papua New Guinea highlands and the canyons fit right in with FS9 default scenery. It's close to my CFS2 Lost World location, so I will attempt to convert it to CFS2 at a later date.

A bit more work is needed on a few objects, I'll hopefully get the FS9 canyon scenery uploaded before the weekend.

Nice!!! I can't wait for this beauty to be up!! I think an A-10 at 500 knots would be quite a fitting way to test it out.

It's too bad that there's no such addon for X-Plane. With all the night shots that I've shown, you can imagine how fast your heart would race when doing 500+ knots in the pitch black with only your heads as a guide. ;D

You can just arbitrarily deform the landscape, it comes out with unpredictable and random results which is cool because you can make a scenery in minutes.

This one has at least one hundred design hours on it so far, the randomness has been pretty much eliminated and almost every section is custom built.

The scenery is HUGE, so don't expect to just do Laps. I think that a race there would require numbered turnpoints and practice to get to know the track, because getting lost is quite easy.

I chose an extremely remote area so that other addon scenery is unlikely to conflict, I have no idea how the canyons will be affected by addon mesh etc. The scenery will be released "as is" and I won't be offering support, however, if

A VOR would be nice, as it would give a little reference in case one were to get . . . lost . . . inside there somewhere! 8)

I think a VOR would be cool if you were flying in from Wewak or Port Moresby for instance. Landing here is certainly going to require a stick and throttle approach.

Testing with a Boeing 707 from HJG using their airfiles was a determining factor in the main routes, this really pushes a 707 to it's limits as you can imagine, not for the faint-hearted.

Flying full real requires some throttle and brake work
