My first ever videos!

Postby simonmd » Tue Mar 07, 2006 9:54 pm

In preparation for my system upgrade, i've been experementing with making short FS videos. Has been a steep learning experience, I didn't even realise that I had Windows Movie Maker!

Anyway, thought i'd share them with you anyway, if nothing else to demontsrate the sort of frame rates i'm used to flying with!

This is the very first I made and is a BMI Baby 737-500 on final approach to Cardiff airport, S Wales, near to where I live,

You want more?! Ok, here's a classic 737-200 landing at the default KSEA, Seattle,

I stress again that these where made to learn the basics of video making, comments, advise, welcome.

I can tell you this, if you've got the same performance as me, DON'T get Fraps to capture the video with. It'll half your framerate. Search on Google for GameCam which is what I use, it's free but doesn't record sound unless you pay for the full version and the performance hit is negligable.

Turn it on and go fly! Once you've recorded enough stuff, you should have Window Movie Maker on your system (deffinately if you have Win XP SP2) and it's just a case of dragging clips to the right possition and then adding some music over it. Have fun!

For those who can't see them on Zippyvideos, here's two links to another site.

Thanks for the comments.  :)

I watched the 737-200.

I would make the video bigger. Also I would make the final continous and show the flare.

Whats with the frame rate? I also saw the computer lagging when loading textures. In a compressed video you can't even see that much detail so I would lower it. Or is the video capture program lagging everything up?

I'm no expert but that was a weird landing. Just before the flare it looks like you raised the nose 10-15 degrees in the air. It looks like the approach was too slow. Isn't a proper landing when the airplane's nose is slightly above horizon?

You can't make the video much bigger without getting a huge file size. Zippyvideos has a 10mb file size limit unless you pay money. Both the 737 vids are only just under that, hence the size. You also do loose a couple of FPS with the video capture and some picture quality due to compression.

This is NOT a demonstration on the correct procedures for landing! It's supposed to be a demstration of a quick trial video, that's all. The landing was crap, when I disengaged the AP (way too late) the nose shot up into the air, virtualy stalling the AC and it basicaly 'fell' onto the runway.
