I would have put the gear up, but like I said, I was really expecting just to plop right down in the water, because I really started from the nearest helipad position (you can see in the first shot).  Also, the carrier is moving at a pretty good clip, so I actually went farther than it looks like I did, but that's still quite a ways to go from a stop with two thirds of the lift gone.

Several years ago I saw a TV show where they were looking around one of the larger carriers.  They asked the captain how powerful the catapults were?  He replied that if you put a VW Beetle on the catapult and launched it at full power, it would eventually hit the ocean... 18 miles away  ;D

No, unfortunately not, however there is a fix you can make in on of the files that allows you to fly whatever aircraft you want, but they all have the Su-33 cockpit, and they can't use any "smart" weapons.
