I'm gonna say Westland Whirlwind again. The SAR helicopter before the Seaking and capable of flying in conditions that the DC3 wouldn't have left it's hanger for. ('79 Fastnet race.)

The 737 is worthy but will they still be flying in 40 years? Probably not. The Douglas DC3 has to walk this one.

The 737 started service in 1963 so that makes the design 43 years old.

Did it? Wow! Didn't know that, thought it was about 1970ish.

Maybe we should accept the DC3 as the best and give the prize to the 2nd place AC?

The 737 started service in 1963 so that makes the design 43 years old.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_737

The first 737 (a 100 series) took its maiden flight April 9, 1967 and entered service in February 1968 with Lufthansa.

And heres some info about my nominee, the C-130 Hercules.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C-130

   * AC-130 gunship
   * DC-130 and GC-130 drone control
   * EC-130 Commando Solo command and control, and electronic warfare
   * EC-130 Compass Call, electronic warfare and electronic spoofing
   * EC-130E ABCCC
   * HC-130P/N special operations refueling, long-range surveillance, search and rescue
   * JC-130 and NC-130 space and missile operations
   * KC-130 tactical refueling tanker
   * LC-130 Arctic & Antarctic support
   * MC-130E/H Combat Talon I/II (special operations)
   * MC-130P Combat Shadow (special operations)
   * YMC-130H three modified for planned Iran hostage crisis rescue attempt under project Credible Sport
   * PC-130 maritime patrol
   * RC-130 reconnaissance
   * SC-130 search and rescue
   * VC-130 VIP transport
   * WC-130 weather reconnaissance

Now THAT is what you call a multi-role aircraft! The ultimate workhorse.

Although i dont have one on my FS2004, the best working air-class by far is the Super Constallation aka "Connie".
