I've been playing a bit of Trainz 2004 and it's a lot of fun. I like to put a ton of trains on one large route and start them up, then hand the sim over to my son, who takes control of different trains and has a great time...
MS Train Simulator is still more realistic looking though, despite it's age. IMHO Trainz isn't really a Train simulator, it's a model railway simulator at heart, with extra goodies added but not looking as realistic as it could...
There's tons of stuff you can download for it on planet auran and other places, BUT BUT BUT download speeds are utterly dismal, I get 4kb/sec and, what's worse, all sceneries are composed of disgusting things called 'dependencies'. You download one route, and find it needs a ton (like 50, no joke) of objects made by other people which don't come with it, and sometimes if you download that stuff you find that it also has dependencies. The download manager should download all these things automatically, but the darn routes still don't work even after I've spent an hour downloading every bit of fence, every stone. I gave up on it, though vehicles and sound can be downloaded relatively easily, the problem there being I don't care that much, I want routes...
Apparently Trainz 2006 has an improved editor and accesss to downloads, so maybe yours will work better in this direction than mine...
Nice shots, please post more! I was intending to do so too....It definately makes a fun change... and the Modular City addon looks great (from screenshots)...
