The Lines Have Been Drawn Pre-Poll: Heavies

Postby Clipper » Wed Jan 25, 2006 10:08 pm

[size=16]It's time to let the big boys take over and show their style. Once again we're put to task to decide the most beautiful design ever, this time in the "Heavyweight" category. To qualify in this category, the aircraft you nominate must have a cargo capacity large enough to accomodate at least one 737.

I nominate the Boeing 747, the most successful and (IMO) most beautiful jet... ever.

The iFly model is absolutely stunning 8) (it just needs a BA 'union flag' repaint to look it's best)

An-225 ! no contest!

Come on! SIX Engines!!! Twin tails? GORGEOUS!!!

The 747 is nothing more than a perfectly lovely plane with a ugly lump on it's back! It would be perfect to play the role of Quasimodo if there would be a film made like: The Hunchback of the notre dame the airplane edition!

The Spruce Goose!!

Image

The Spruce Goose is a nickname commonly given to the Hughes H-4 Hercules, an aircraft designed and built by the Hughes Aircraft company, Howard Hughes' plane company. The nickname arose as a way of making light of the Hercules project due to Hughes' alleged misuse of government funding to build the aircraft. The Hercules is the largest flying boat, and has the largest wingspan of any aircraft ever built. Only one was built.

Due to wartime restrictions on the availability of metals, the H-4 was built almost entirely of laminated birch, not spruce as its nickname suggests. The aircraft was a marvel in its time. It married a soon-to-be outdated technology

Does the B-52 have a cargo hold, big enough to hold a 737? :P

Or do you mean it has to be as big (or bigger, of course)... in theory, it could hold a 737?

Well since there's a bomber involved (the B-52), I'm gonna have to go for...

The B-1B Lancer!

It may not be able to hold a 737, but it's bigger than one :P

The rules stated that the 747 is the smallest you can go, so the C-17, B-1 and 'beluga' are ruled out... They're all quite a bit smaller than a 747!

Unless the rules can be changed so say, a 757 is the smallest you can go (or anything greater than 255k lbs, as in the aviation world), those 3 aircraft will be out of the race.

ok, so what are your offers??
come on, it's a pre-poll, we just give ideas, and clipper will decide which aircraft will be in his poll...
don't take this to seriously.
also if the 747 is the smallest what are the possibilities: an-225, an-224, B-52, spruce goose, uss enterprise, A380 and that's it. may be usefull to widen the range of possible aircraft. ;)
and if you can't fit a 737 in a beluga, I've no idea what it is design for... ;)

take it easy ;D
