The gear went down on the Dakota, or so I think. My eyes were bleary as I aroused from my sleep - it had been a long night. I looked out of the window and realised where we were - we had nearly touched down at Tinwald Down. I looked with such relief at the ground to realise the approach I had made many times earlier.
the Dakota was illuminated by a crack of lightning and Thunder, as I looked for the runway out of my small window.
"Alright, men! Wake up! We're landing at Tinwald Down. 32nd Squad, you'll stay here for the night while we repair the aircraft. Men of Tinwald Down - prepare to be re-united with your home!" The officer called, waking us all up.
I could hear the Dakota's #1 engine struggling. This trip had taken it's toll on the aircraft.
the treeline came ever closer, as I heard the pilots increasing the degrees of flaps to try and get more lift. Wasn't working too well, I tohught, as I saw the treeline edge closer.
within seconds, the treeline disppeared, the aircraft banked steeply and, THUD - we were back at Tinwald down!
"Gents," the officer told us as the aircraft #1 engine completely failed and we rolled to a stop, "welcome home."
