Why some pilots hate birds

Postby Flying Homer » Wed Jan 04, 2006 9:23 am

Tuesday evening, Charles De Gaules airport, Paris.  An Air France Airbus A300 is ready for departure on runway 26R.

"Charles De Gaules Tower, Air France 1547 is requesting take off clearance"

Image

"Air France 1547; you are cleared for take off."

Image

BIRD STRIKE!!!  Engine #2 is on fire!!!  Shut it down, shut it down!!  We have to land immediately!!!

Image

There, thats Le Bourget ahead.
"Le Bourget tower, Air France 1547 is declaring an emergency.  Engine 2 is on fire, we need to land immediately!"

Image

"Roger that Air France 1547, You are cleared to land, visual runway 25"

Image

Damn, this bird is hard to control with one engine down.  Maybe the hydraulics are damaged by the fire!

Image

We're landed, apply full brakes!

Image

"Le Bourget tower, send in the fire trucks!"

Image

Maybe it wasn't very realistic, but I hope you had fun reading this :)

Wonder how you managed that in FS...engine failure?

Nope, smoke and fire effect on engine 2 only, and turned the engine off myself ;)

Great idea and originality, which I think really sets shots apart! Great shots too!  :) :)

I've done it as well - except with a Lancaster. Edit your aircraft's CFG file, the effect comes under "SMOKESYSTEM".

It should look somewhat like this:

[SMOKESYSTEM]
smoke.0=-200.00, 05.00, -25.00, fx_engsmoke.fx

(fx_engsmoke.fx is the effect you used Flying Homer, right?)

fx_egsmoke.fx is a default effect (I think). as you can see, there are 3 different numbers. Each number governs a different movement of the effect, I think #1 governs distance from the center of the aircraft (how far forward/back it is), #2 governs height from centre of aircraft (how far up/down it is) and #3 governs distance from center of aircraft again (how far left/right it is).

Hope this helps :)

I didn't adjust the aircraft.cfg, It was that way when I installed the A300.

But I looked it up an this is the effect :

[SMOKESYSTEM]      // vert, long, lat, effect
smoke.0= -10.000, 15.000, 26.000, fx_engsmoke ,

My grandpa used to stick chickens in the new engines at pratt and whitney to make sure they wouldn't do that.

I highly doubt this is done in Real life, but once I was landing the DC-3 on a short rwy, too short infact.  As I roled out, I cut the engines to help me slow down.  Low and behold it worked!  I slowed down enough before the rwy ran out, and then just restarted as I rolled.
