Low and slow

Postby gryshnak » Wed Dec 28, 2005 5:29 pm

I just spent an enjoyable evening flying low, and slow, following the roads of Co. Galway in an Evans VP-1 Volksplane.  Other folks were online and zooming about at Mach 2 but I didn't get much more than a wingspan above the ground for the whole time.  Very relaxing and peaceful down there, reading the road signs  ;D

And when I arrived at my destination, I just tootled over to the runway...

...and throttled back.  The plane landed itself.

It was a total chill-out flight to go with the Christmas/New Year break.  A welcome change from fast jets and crowded skies.

You're not familiar with the Evans Volksplane?  It's a small homebuilt (but not an ultralight), quite popular and very basic.  Powered by a VW engine, hence the name.  Great fun to fly.  This one is by the esteemed Tim 'Piglet' Conrad.

Looks similar to a Hummelbird, which is also powered with a VW engine......

Thanks, I'll proceed to test drive it as soon as praticable. ;)
