Fighting the flu...........

Postby TSC. » Sat Nov 19, 2005 1:03 pm

Only this morning I got a phone call at Hanks from the BFU head office, apparently there had been a suspected outbreak of Avian Flu at Moudi farm (S.E. Alaska). My job was to get over to Juneau ASAP & take a team of scientists from there down to Moudi Farm so that they could carry out tests.

Heading towards Junea to collect a team of 8 scientists & 2000lbs of equipment:

Obviously the Maule was never going to 'cut the mustard marmalade' with this job, so we had to take the good old Grand Caravan instead:

Climbing to 10,000ft, we could avoid the low cloud & miserable weather below us. The paln was to follow the GPS until we were nearly at Annette Island (PANT) & then head back down under the weather to continue our flight using VFR & the GPS as a rough guide:

Ducking down under the weather, we dipped our wings to the guy's & gals at BFU North on our way past:

Now the weather had really taken a turn for the worse, I was quite happy to have the GPS with me today, all I had to do was follow the valleys to our destination:
Image
heading down the valleys at between 200 - 300ft, we kept our eyes peeled for the farm:

& just as we arrived, so the weather decided to clear up, typical!!:

Everybody & all of the equipment was unloaded with great haste, I decided against hanging around too long as i'm not a great fan of catching bird flu:

Time to head back to BFU North for a relaxing evening, before making my way back to Juneau & Hanks tomorrow.

Cheers,

TSC.
