GW3 Finale

Postby RollerBall » Mon Nov 14, 2005 6:40 pm

Thanks Mr Bill Lyons. I look forward to many happy hours flying with Golden Wings. Last few just to show what a pure delight it is. Every shot you take is so delicious - the colours....everything - you just can't help it.

I look forward to seeing what veryone else makes of it - and make sure you tell us about great places to fly in GW3. These shots were in Scotland BTW.

Great shots, Roger. I'm slowly getting around to installing it. I have it downloaded, I just have to convert it.

For all those who are contemplating installing gw, HOLD YOURE HORSES!  Soon, you wont need to install a whole new fs, but you will be able to get the gw textures.  Soon my friends, soon.

PS: Rollerball, check your pms

Why install new textures and change the sim over? Didn't the sky, clouds, and ground look the same back in the 1930's?

Andrew, it's difficult to explain, but Bill Lyons has modified thousands of textures to give a whole completely different look and feel to the sim. You know when you see a film that's based in the thirties, if they've done it well even if you walked into the cinema after it'd started and didn't know what period it was set in, you'd just know. Well that's what Bill has done - and incredibly well too.

He's added little bits of white cascade in rivers, better sidelines to rivers and roads, given the grass a 'rougher' greener feel that looks far far better when you are flying low and slow in an 'old' prop driven plane, changed tree textures so they merge with the ground far far better and redone the autogen. And in GW3 flying low and slow is the whole point. It's all geared very much to visually improving the sim so you really can do it and enjoy it

What Jake has pointed out is that soooo many people have said the changes are so good - as a keen bush flyer you'll love em - that Bill Lyons has said OK, let's supply them as a set for the STANDARD sim ie no time regression as in GW3, so you keep all the modern airports etc.

Hope that answers it. You have to see it to really understand though. It's given the sim a completely new lease of life for me. I never was much of a bush flyer really but now I can't wait to take a look around at the mountains and lakes of Alaska.

These say it all. I've just taken off from Hawkinge, a WWII airfield in South-East England not far from where I live. In Golden Wings there are Sptfires there doing TandG's...

Apart from the richness of the colours - look at the crops, the roads, the tree and grass textures.

Nostalgia? You bet.

Yep, silver wings is out. So if you dont want to revert or install a new fs, get silver wings for the textures.

PS:  Where is that Ventura/Hudson from?
