Whirlybird day

Postby Censport » Wed Oct 26, 2005 11:26 am

I went out for a couple of joyrides last night, trying out some downloaded AI and scenery files. The first hop was in San Francisco Bay, to watch the AI floatplanes. As you can see, I had a bit of trouble getting good shots...

Turning to give chase

Where'd he go? Oh there he is! Wait, he's on approach, I don't need to be down here!

After that, I couldn't line up and get a good shot of the landing. Sorry! So I gave up and visited my sister in Jersey. Hopped in the old Bell Jet Ranger at Newark and headed for the city and a bit of early holiday shopping (can never resist seeing if the stores have their fancy displays up yet).

As always, it's tough to find a parking space in New York...

But at least I don't have to worry about door dings.

Everybody out!

Now I don't want y'all to get the idea that I actually landed right there. After about 20+ tries (I stopped counting) I finally managed to land with the last foot or so of the skids hanging off the back of the platform. After that, it was just a matter of applying juuuust enough power to crawl forward, dragging the front of the skids the whole way. Am I glad FS9 doesn't have sound effects for that!  :D

I've still got some computer adjustments to make before my screenshots look smooth, but I just had too much fun last night to keep it all to myself.

Cool!!
That 'parking spot' - is that default or did you download it?
If it is default, where can I find it?
Cheers  ;)

I downloaded that parking spot. There two more in the package, one in midtown and another in Harlem. The one you see here is in lower Manhattan, between where the WTC used to be and Chinatown.

I'm pretty sure I got the package at Hovercontrol. Look for a download titled "NY_Roofpads" in the scenery section.

Thanks for your comments everyone!

Nice chopper pics :)

I love flying the Bell 47.  I used that one for the screenshot contest this month.  Till now, I think its one of the easiest choppers to land :)
