ID4: Part three B - The Drink

Postby krigl » Fri Oct 14, 2005 3:12 pm

"Listen, listen, there's no need to do this! Just follow us to the shore and we'll put the plane down there."

"No, you listen General Bezdomny, I know that it's you. Your friend Oleg survived the crash you see. He was most co-operative. We've found the Yak-12 after your pitiful attempt to hide it in the water. So hopeless. I can't believe you're the hero of Kursk, running like a dog."

"I don't know what you're talking about."

"And to think that they put you in charge of the manned space programme. Well, we'll soon have that erased from the records."

"No, listen, there must be some mistake! We were...watching whales!!!"

Image

"You're not going to wriggle out of this one, Vassily Shigulovitch Bezdomny, your voice has been compared with the tapes and confirmed, under pressure, by your son. Doesn't look like he'll be going into space now, by the way. He just doesn't have the physical condition."

"No! But, but..."

Image

The plane suddenly jumped as if something heavy had slammed into it, accompanied by a staccato drilling and a smashing of glass from behind us....then there was a sound like a thunderclap and a silver figher jet sped by at what must have been the speed of sound before accellerating up into the sky. The An-2 shuddered, but continued on its path, the sound of wind whistling from the passenger cabin suddenly loud.

Image

"Let's put her down, please!" panicked the pilots.

"Okay!" cried Vassily, "I give up! Now just let us get to the shore and we'll wait for the helicopter as you said!"

"I'm afraid it's too late for that now. Do you know how much jet fuel costs? You're an embarrasment to us, Vassily. We're very disappointed. You couldn't let go of the past. Now you must die."

"I'm a general of the Soviet Army. I fought for the Motherland at Kursk, Stalingrad, Berlin! You can't do this!"

"I think you'll find that we can. And speaking of heroes, how many brave soldiers did Stalin, Beria and their cronies like you send to the camps after the war ended? What makes you think you deserve better than what you've got coming to you?"

Image

"By the way, just before you die, I thought you might like to know that those two men you've got fleeing with you are escaped political prisoners from the gulag. Kulaks. The kind of people you sent to their deaths. How ironic...."

"Prisoners?!" Vassily stared at me and Dmitri with horror in his eyes.

"Ah, they're making a slow pass this time... I'm confident they WON'T miss again. It's time to say goodbye Vassily." Click.

"You didn't tell me.."

"But..."

A stream of glowing tracer floated lazily in front of our window and then whipped towards us.

Image

The pilots "NOoooooo"

With a mighty crash the windows exploded inwards and the cockpit was suddenly filled with a red spray as the pilots slumped to the controls, sending us into a dive towards the water just a few metres below.

Image

We covered our heads with our arms instinctively as the floats plunged into the water...

Image

Then we cartwheeled and all was whirling chaos...

Image

... and all went black.

The last thing I remember was the taste of salt in my mouth....

Thanks CSpyro, I aim to please...

Next episode (part 5 from a total of 6) will be finished in a week or so.

How about that Indian Prince...? I posted some 'inspiration' in ID4 part 2.... keep the 'flight-sim story' torch burning!

God, you really did please!!

Can't wait to read next and final part..however I will feel lost without your storyline to read.

And about the Indian Prince....that is coming tomorrow.  ;)

And I'll keep the FS-story torch burning!
Cheers  ;)

Thanks very much!! ID5 part one is shot, checking out the rushes... :) I'm putting the story on my website for easy reading for those who are interested, as Easy Flyer suggested.

Looking forward to tonight to read what's new here, looks like people have been active... :) Got to work now, translating :)  Have a good (what's left of the)weekend!

Cheers
